Treatments
Every treatment is chosen according to the diagnosis, age and needs of each patient. The techniques below are not interchangeable: the clinical situation guides the choice, and we always explain why one option is proposed rather than another.
Early treatment in children: removable and functional appliances
In children, some problems are best addressed during growth, in the mixed dentition: a crossbite, a marked discrepancy between the jaws, severe crowding, or habits such as thumb-sucking. This first phase most often uses removable or functional appliances, which can for example widen a dental arch or influence jaw growth. Their effectiveness depends directly on how consistently they are worn, and we support both the child and the parents in this. Early treatment is only proposed when it offers a real benefit; in most cases, simple monitoring is enough.
Fixed braces
Fixed braces, made of small brackets bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire, remain the most versatile technique. They allow precise control of each tooth’s movement, even in complex situations. We use the Speed system, compact self-ligating brackets. Metal brackets remain our standard choice. When discretion matters particularly to a patient, clear brackets can be placed on the most visible teeth, from canine to canine in the upper jaw.
Invisalign aligners
Invisalign aligners are a series of clear, removable trays, replaced at regular intervals. Discreet and easy to clean, they suit many situations, especially in adults and teenagers, provided they are worn almost all day, about 22 hours out of 24. Depending on the complexity of the case, fixed braces may remain the most reliable option: we will tell you honestly what can reasonably be expected.
Adult orthodontics
It is not too late to treat an alignment or bite problem, as long as the gums and supporting bone are healthy. In adults, treatment often also aims to make other dental care possible, such as implants or crowns, or stabilization after periodontal treatment. It is then planned in coordination with your dentist.
Orthodontics and surgery
When the discrepancy between the jaws is too large to be corrected by orthodontics alone, orthognathic surgery may be considered once growth is complete. The orthodontist prepares and completes the treatment, in close collaboration with a maxillofacial surgeon.
Congenital conditions
We treat children with cleft lip and palate or other congenital conditions of the teeth and jaws, in collaboration with the medical teams involved. When the criteria are met, these treatments may be covered by the Swiss Disability Insurance (AI).
After treatment
Once the teeth are in place, a wire bonded behind the teeth or a retainer worn at night maintains the result. See also our frequently asked questions.
It all starts with a first consultation
Whatever treatment is being considered, the first consultation includes an examination, clear explanations and, if treatment is indicated, a presentation of the possible options and their estimated duration.
